Ore refining

Structure and parts

The fixed 10 × 4 × 3 drawing of the Quantum Ore Refinery, layer by layer, with every block and its recipe.

The refinery is 10 blocks long, 4 high and 3 deep. Every layer below is a plan view from above, as you see it when you stand in front of the controller: the top line of a layer is the back row, the bottom line is the front row (the row the controller is in), and left and right are your left and right. Layer 1 is the bottom one, at the controller’s level.

  • The controller (KC) is on the front row of layer 1, second block from the left. It faces you when you place it: the structure stands behind it and to its right (eight blocks to the right of the controller, two behind it).
  • The drawing turns in quarter turns with the controller and is never mirrored.
  • Only the kind of block matters in each cell, not the way it faces.
  • The drawing is the default structure: it is what /mekeng build builds and what the JEI page shows. A few cells accept more than they are drawn with (see Ports below); the JEI page marks them “your choice”.

The four tank cells (TA, TW, TH, TO) are each a column two blocks high, on layers 2 and 3 (the capacities are the same as before). Layer 4 is the roof.

92 blocks are required; the optional module and the free cells come on top.

Ore Refinery Accelerator or Casing8Places for 0 to 8 accelerators; each accelerator shortens a job (see Speed and accelerators)
Free cells27Air, Ore Refinery Glass or Ore Refinery Casing; a free cell on the outside face of the box (19 of them) takes any block
Ore Refinery Quantum Module0 or 1Optional, in the cell marked QM or in the place of the output port, and in no other cell

Exactly 84 cells need one given block and 8 take an accelerator or a casing: 92 in all.

The ports are the structure’s doors; all of them are single blocks. The refinery counts them as a whole, so where they go is your choice within these rules:

  • Counts: at least five Input Ports, at least one Energy Port, and at most one Output Port (it is optional). The drawing has five Input Ports, one Output Port and one Energy Port, and that is what /mekeng build builds and what JEI shows, but you may put more Input Ports and Energy Ports on the cells that take a port. With too few Input Ports or Energy Ports, or a second Output Port, the structure does not form and the controller’s screen says the port count is wrong.
  • No Output Port? The structure still forms, but the refinery does not work until the products have somewhere to go: a Quantum Module with a frequency chosen. Until then the screen reads “No output” with a warning. Nothing is taken or lost, and it starts working as soon as you add the port or link the module.
  • The back row of layers 1 and 2 (the eight cells on each layer between the two corner pillars) takes a casing or any port. On layer 2 the back row also takes Ore Refinery Glass.
  • The two ends of the middle row of layer 1 (the left end and the output end) take a casing, an Input Port or the Output Port, never an Energy Port. An Input Port at an end works on items only: a Configurator will not turn it to fluids or gases there.
  • The drawing puts the five Input Ports on the back row of layer 1 and at the left end, the Output Port at the right end, the Energy Port in the right half of the back row of layer 1 (the cell next to it is a casing).
  • Input Ports (IP, five or more): a Configurator cycles each through Items (shown in red), Fluids (violet) and Gases (yellow). See Automation.
  • Quantum Module: at most one, and only in one of these two cells. It takes the place of the Output Port (the structure then has no Output Port and sends its products to a Quantum frequency or a QIO) or the cell above it (QM); in any other cell it does not count and the controller’s screen says so (the structure does not form until it is moved), and a second module is refused the same way. With an Output Port as well, the port is the spare buffer: what the module cannot hold goes out by the port.
  • A port belongs to one refinery.

The refinery is an end-game build, so its recipes ask for end-game parts of Mekanism. All recipes are shaped crafting. “Any” means a tag: any Atomic Alloy (mekanism:alloys/atomic), any Ultimate Control Circuit (c:circuits/ultimate). The Ore Refinery Casing is itself made first and used by almost everything else.

The tank blocks are shape only: the controller holds the water and the three chemicals. All the blocks are in the mod’s creative tab, and each has a short description in its tooltip.

  • Build the controller first, facing you, then count to the right: the seven modules sit next to it in the order Dissolution, Washing, Crystallization, Injection, Purification, Enrichment, Smelting.
  • The block above the controller is a conveyor (layer 2); the optional module cell is at the far end, above the output port.
  • If the structure will not form, the controller’s screen names the first block that is wrong and its position.
