Petrogenic Synthesis Plant

Endgame plant of 3 × 3 × 3 blocks, placed in one go: eight production lines side by side, each with its own product.

⟲ Drag to turn
TypeMultiblock (3 × 3 × 3, placed in one go)
Size3 × 3 × 3 blocks (one main block, 26 invisible structure blocks placed automatically)
Energy1,280 J/t (512 FE/t) combined for all eight lines, on Cobblestone without upgrades; 64,000,000 J (25,600,000 FE) stored (petrogenic_synthesis.plantEnergyUsage / plantEnergyStorage)
UpgradesSpeed, Energy, Muffling, Anchor (Mekanism); up to 4 Hydro Condenser Upgrades and 4 Magma Synthesizer Upgrades in their own bays
Side configurationno, fixed ports (like the Quantum Digital Miner)

The Plant is a compact 3 × 3 × 3 structure: a central chamber at the front, and at the back two towers joined to it by low pipes, water on the left seen from the front and lava on the right. Each tower shows whether its buffer holds any fluid: it is empty at 0 mB and full from the first millibucket, whatever the exact level (the exact amounts are on the screen), and water and lava are independent. Installed Hydro Condenser or Magma Synthesizer Upgrades are drawn on the towers’ mounts. The products the lines are making show on the screen, not on the block.

It is the Petrogenic Synthesizer at industrial scale: sixteen times its output for the same upgrades, and ten times less water and lava per block at full speed. It runs eight independent production lines side by side, each turning water and lava into its own chosen product from the same 13‑product list as the small machine: a line can be left empty, make the same product as another line, or make something different; changing a line’s product abandons the block it was making, like changing recipe on any Mekanism machine.

Two large buffers (water, lava) feed every line, and each can be filled three ways:

  • Pipes at the buffer’s own fixed intake: always used first.
  • By hand: a bucket or a Mekanism Fluid Tank of the right fluid, placed in the screen’s fluid slot above the matching bay, tops up that buffer: but only while no module of that fluid is installed; an installed module always wins, and the container left in the slot is then simply left untouched.
  • The Plant’s own upgrades: the Hydro Condenser Upgrade makes water out of energy, the Magma Synthesizer Upgrade makes lava out of a lot of energy: each only makes up what the buffer still lacks, up to full, and only pays energy for what it actually makes.

Hydro Condenser Upgrade

Makes water from energy in the Plant: up to 1,000 mB a tick per module (up to 4,000 mB/t with all four), 5 J a mB, filling whatever the water buffer still lacks, up to full: what comes through the pipes goes first.

Makes lava from a lot of energy in the Plant: up to 1,000 mB a tick per module (up to 4,000 mB/t with all four), 1,000 J a mB whatever the Energy Upgrades, filling whatever the lava buffer still lacks, up to full.

  1. Craft the Plant (see above): four Petrogenic Synthesizers go into it, so build those first.
  2. Clear a 3 × 3 × 3 space and place the main block at the centre of the bottom layer of that space; the 26 invisible structure blocks fill the rest automatically. Placement is refused if any of those 27 positions is occupied.
  3. Connect a water pipe to the back of the water tower (left seen from the front) and a lava pipe to the back of the lava tower (right seen from the front); each port only takes its own fluid. A bucket or a Mekanism Fluid Tank of the right fluid works too, in the screen’s matching fluid slot, as long as no module of that fluid is installed yet.
  4. Feed energy into the fixed port at the back centre, between the two towers.
  5. Connect an item pipe or inventory to either side at the front: both sides are outputs, taking turns, or let finished blocks collect in the Plant’s own buffer.
  6. Open the screen and click one of the eight product cells; a window opens to choose that line’s product (shift‑click a product there to set every line to it at once).
  7. Optional: shift‑right‑click any block of the Plant with a Hydro Condenser Upgrade or a Magma Synthesizer Upgrade in hand to add it to its bay (up to four of each) and reduce how much water or lava you need to supply from outside.

Petrogenic Synthesis Plant interface

The screen is tall: if it does not fit your window (for example at GUI scale 3 in a 1280×720 window), lower the GUI scale.

  • Water gauge (left, labelled “Water”) and lava gauge (right, labelled “Lava”): the two buffers. Hover a gauge for Mekanism’s amount and then “Level: N %”, “Made by the modules: +N mB/t” (only when a module of that fluid is installed), “Brought by the pipes: +N mB/t” and “Used by the lines: −N mB/t”.
  • Fluid slot and bay under each gauge: the slot above the bay takes a bucket or a Mekanism Fluid Tank of that fluid; the bay takes the Hydro Condenser Upgrade (water side) or the Magma Synthesizer Upgrade (lava side), up to four each. Both show a greyed ghost item while empty.
  • Production screen (middle): at the top, “Producing · N blocks/s” while it runs, or a warning icon and the reason it stops (“Missing water”, “Missing lava”, “Missing energy”; other states such as a slowed or full output use their own text). Hover it for the Plant’s rate, and the first line that waits and what it lacks (“12 blocks/s · line 3 waits for water”).
  • Eight product cells in a 4 × 2 grid: each shows its line’s product, or a “+” when the line is empty. A small warning icon on a cell’s corner means that line waits (or runs slowed). Hover a cell for “Line N: product”, its rate in blocks/s, what it waits for (water, lava, energy or room), “Click: choose its product” and “Shift-click: every line”. Click a cell to open the product window, titled “Line N: product”: every product, 14 to a page with page arrows and a counter, a click sets that line, a Shift-click sets all eight lines, and the Empty this line button empties just that one.
  • Internal buffer (under the cells): a chest icon, “Internal buffer”, the count against the buffer’s capacity (for example “120 / 2,304”) and a bar. The count is the number of finished blocks waiting for an output.
  • Energy bar and charge slot (bottom): Mekanism’s own horizontal power bar and energy tab (hover the tab for the usual Mekanism energy readout, including energy used this tick), with a slot under the lava bay to charge the Plant directly from a battery or an Energy Cube.

The Plant’s water and lava intakes, its energy port and its two item outputs are fixed and cannot be reassigned: the same approach Mekanism uses for the Digital Miner. Breaking the Plant, from any of its 27 blocks, drops a single item that keeps both buffers, its energy, its line selections, its upgrades and its installed modules.

Unlike the Synthesizer, the Plant’s water and lava use per block does not grow with Speed Upgrades: only its speed does. Figures below are combined across all eight lines, for Cobblestone:

  • External supply through pipes always wins: the Hydro Condenser and Magma Synthesizer Upgrades only fill what the buffer still lacks, so they never waste energy topping up a buffer the pipes are already filling.
  • The Magma Synthesizer Upgrade’s cost (1,000 J/mB, a Pellet of Polonium to craft) is deliberately steep: full fluid autonomy with four of each module is an endgame goal, not an early upgrade.
  • The item buffer holds 2,304 items across 36 slots; once it is full, a line with nowhere to put its product stops consuming water, lava and energy for that line rather than wasting them.
  • For a compact, movable setup instead, see the Petrogenic Synthesizer.
